However, not all of your plans will turn out well. Sometimes, you get it right and you enjoy your success. At other times you fail and try to learn from your mistakes. You certainly don’t have to get stuck in them. In fact, you should make sure you get out of these potholes. Jeremy Bloom suggests some tips for achieving this, dependent upon your personality type.

Jeremy Bloom, in his magnificent book, Fueled by Failure: Using Detours and Defeats to Power Progress, gives different tips for you to employ to lift your spirits when your plans fail so you don’t fall into a depressed and deteriorative state:

  • Put a limit on your mourning time. When you’ve failed, you have the right to feel down. However, after a while, you must put an end to your period of mourning, and feelings of anger and begin to look to the future with optimism and hope.
  • Identify your mistakes. When something goes wrong, some of the blame will be your own. Therefore, you should identify the mistakes you made, and learn from them so that they don’t happen again. This exercise requires you to be really honest.
  • Don’t take it personally. It’s better not to get too angry because there are always both good and bad moments in life. Therefore, the failure of a project certainly shouldn’t be a reason to lose hope.
  • Be realistic. Your plans have failed. Now it’s time to get back up and be realistic. You must define a strategy that’s feasible and balanced to avoid frustration and further failure.

  • A matter of attitude. Jeremy Bloom makes it clear that each person should be who they are, and should never just follow the current trends. In fact, your attitude is key when it comes to lifting your spirits when your plans fail.
  • The spark. If something’s gone wrong, this is a good time to go back to the beginning and find that spark you had that ignited your plans in the first place. Indeed, reconnecting with your motivation and dreams that once acted as an impulse for you is a great idea for lifting your spirits.
