Despite the fact that Marilyn Monroe always played the role of the silly and naive blonde, we know that she was an extremely intelligent woman. In fact, they say that on all her travels she carried a suitcase full of books. Indeed, it appears that she had an exquisite taste for literature, as demonstrated in her library which contained 400 excellent books. Better alone than unhappy

“It’s better to be unhappy alone than unhappy with someone”.

We’ve been educated in the belief that we shouldn’t be alone, that the “normal”, the “ideal” is to have a partner… But the truth is, how many people wouldn’t say “I’m far better off on my own than in bad company”.

We should all know how to be alone. Only then are we able to be with other people without needing them just for the company, and possibly still being unhappy. Indeed, the key to having healthy relationships is first to reconcile ourselves with being alone.

The enjoyment of a healthy sexuality

“It’s woman’s spirit and mood a man has to stimulate in order to make sex interesting. The real lover is the man who can thrill you by touching your head or smiling into your eyes or just staring into space”.

Another more than intelligent phrase dedicated especially to men. It means that a woman can enjoy sexuality much more when a man knows how to approach her.  In fact, it’s often these types of little details that make a woman fully and happily enjoy sex.

There is no wrong sex

“People tried making me into a lesbian. I smiled. No sex is wrong sex if there is love in it”.

Again, this is one of Marilyn Monroe’s phrases that demonstrate she was a modern woman, without prejudice. After all, who’s to say there’s anything wrong with anyone’s sexuality? Clearly, this was something that Marilyn Monroe had asked herself and her answer was extremely clear.

Toxic people are among us

“Dogs never bite me. Just humans”.

In this world we live in, we’re often surrounded by toxic people. In fact, Marilyn Monroe’s phrase says it all. There are people around us who manipulate and hurt us, and who turn into emotional vampires who absorb all our energy. We have to be careful.

The envy of success

“Success makes so many people hate you, I wish it wasn’t that way. It would be wonderful to enjoy success without seeing envy in the eyes of those around you”.

This is so true. One of the defects of being human is that we often can’t bear the success of others and some people do nothing but look at others with envy. We should admire, instead of envy. To rejoice in the success of others and take it as a reference point for achieving our own goals.

Love is never perfect

“Love doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be true.”.

Sometimes we ask too much from love. However, it’s never perfect, because neither are we. The important thing is that the person next to us really loves us. When we seek perfection, our expectations cause many conflicts, because we’re seeking the impossible.

On the other hand, if we accept the other person as they are, with their defects and their virtues, we’ll love in a real way. That’s because we won’t be loving a model that we’ve created in our minds. In fact, perfection doesn’t exist.

People who remain in our hearts

“Do not presume to have been the first in my heart, if you were not smart enough to be the last”.

The first person who occupies your heart remains in your memory forever. However, this one of Marilyn Monroe’s phrases refers to the fact that it’s not so important who remains in the heart, but how.

Happiness is within

“Happiness is within you, not next to anyone”.

Each of us has to find happiness in ourselves. We can’t wait for happiness or for anyone to grant it to us because the first thing we need to do is to love ourselves and be happy with what we’ve got and with what we are, on our own.

Don’t expect anyone to change for you

“A woman who asks for nothing deserves everything”.

This last saying from Marilyn Monroe refers to that desire we often have to ask the other person to change and to do certain things. In short, to please us. However, in positive relationships we don’t ask or hope the person will change, we accept them as they are.
